To call these experiments is a complete misnomer. An experiment is conducted to see what the end result will be; in other words, the end result is not known. Clearly, the end result of what they were doing in this gain of function research was known beforehand, and their goal was to make that Coronavirus more virulent and more easily spreadable. Also, any notion that this virus was leaked out of this lab or any other like it is nonsense, as these labs are specifically designed to keep organisms in using a multi-layered approach that makes it impossible for any organism to escape from the lab. This virus was purposefully released from that Wuhan lab.
